| Thrill in the 'VilleWritten by Patsi B. Trollinger Illustrated by Elizabeth Thompson
Doug Alverton's life revolves around soccer. It's no wonder his daily routine is upended when a presidential debate comes to town, complete with Secret Service agents, national news trucks, and the accompanying uproar. The results are hilarious, and before the event is over, the sixth grader must make a choice — soccer or politics. Before long, Doug is ready to cast his vote! In this romp of a story set in a small Kentucky town, an All-American boy gets a new perspective on democracy.

"A sixth-grade boy, whose quiet life is centered on playing soccer, has his world disrupted when his small college town is chosen to host a presidential election debate. The effects are humorous and well drawn. The political awakening of a bright young boy is a most timely story."
