Puerh TeaOrigin:
Yunnan ChinaBai Ying Shan village is at the peak of the mountain and faces northeast. This location makes the land entirely exposed to Sunlight all day. At night, the temperature drops considerably. The moisture from the Lancang River travels up to the mountain and forms clouds and mist. This kind of weather is excellent for enhancing the quality of tea.
This is an excellent sheng puerh tea. It is made with tea leaves from ancient trees aged 300-500 years and plucked from the earliest spring flush. The growing area is rich in minerals and low in nitrogen. The high altitude of over 2000m (6060ft) ensures there is enough cloud cover, fog, and mist, with frequent temperature changes, for the tea leaves to develop a high degree of unique character. The tea trees in this region produce some of the most outstanding quality old tree puerh tea in Yunnan.
Bai Ying Shan (白莺山) is one of the mountains in the Wu Liang Shan mountain range in the Southwest Yunnan Lincang region and near Lan Cang River. Though it is not yet very famous among the many tea mountains of Yunnan, studies indicate that Bai Ying Shan is the origin of Yunnan’s ancient large tea trees. Some of the oldest teas are more than 3,000 years old, and the biological character of the tea seed of Bai Ying Shan has been proven to show that it is indeed the birthplace of the Yunnan Big Leaf Tea.
These cakes were made in 2019. Like fine wines, pu-erh can be aged for many years. As the tea ages, it continues to ferment, and its profile reacts to its environment as the leaf takes on new characteristics.
